My 2020 roundup

January 3, 2021 Filed Under: Lifestyle, Blog posts

I’ve seen lots of 2020 roundup style posts, two of my favourites, and mainly where I got my inspiration from, were from Wool Of The King and Tea Spangsberg so go check their posts out.

Obviously, this year has been so different from any other year but I’m going to have a look back at what happened in each month.

January

I’ve been looking back at my photos and it doesn’t look like I got up to anything major. I think January was the month I was revising a ton, went on lots of dog walks and started trying more vegetarian meals. Also, I challenged a lot of fear foods 💪

February

I went to Cardiff with three of my friends for 2 nights which was such fun but a real test on how well I could cope with my eating disorder away from home and without my parents. It was challenging but I’m so glad that I did it because it set me up for uni! We went to Zizi’s (I think…can’t quite remember), ordered a waffle in, cooked dinner at the hostel (which was such a lovely place!), bought a sandwich when other people didn’t buy lunch (massive win!!) and also went to Spoons.

This was mid-Feb so Covid was around but not many people were concerned, being the anxious person I am, I carried hand sanitiser around with me.

March

March was a pretty eventful month, even without Covid. I got my hair cut really short which was such a good decision seeing as hairdressers were shut for so long.

I had my 18th birthday! First birthday in ages that I actually wanted a cake & a party – I say a party, but it was just two friends and me but they are my favourite people <3 We played crazy golf and then went to Frankie & Benny’s – since Covid was around a bit, I was very anxious and almost cancelled. Instead, I played crazy golf in gloves, had pizza (so I wouldn’t need any cutlery) and brought my own spoon to have dessert with. That day I actually had a 3-course meal which I could never have imagined eating (another massive win!!). It was also the last time (I think?) that I went to my friend’s house & had a sleepover.

I was lucky that my birthday was at the beginning of March because most people have had a lockdown birthday. The following weekend my brother and sister came over where we had more cake (!!) and that was probably the last time I got to hug my brother 😥. I had my last day at college which was sad because I was loving it and then we went into lockdown.

I uploaded my first and only YouTube video – Day In The Life Of Percy (my cat) and made a cat Instagram account that I upload to almost every day🐱

April

My poor Percy was ill and had to have a few operations & spent 6 days at the vet 🙁. I was so scared for him and so was Monty so I ended up having a 2-week sleepover with Monty. It was fun until he started waking me up at 4am for food…

I went to my first online concert which was fun! I saw Olivia Moore & Piers Bate who were understudies in Waitress. This was also the month that I bought The Sims and came obsessed with it very quickly – I began face timing my friend once a week to catch up and play The Sims which is definitely a lockdown highlight for me <3

On the 29th April, I got discharged from the eating disorder clinic which I’m super proud of. It was tough because I had been getting professional help for about 3 years and also I was discharged over the phone which was much harder than I think it would have been in person.

May

I think this was the month that I went vegetarian and I moved my blog to WordPress! This was a pretty exciting month, my blog was on SimpleSite for a year, but I was finding it hard to use so I switched and started uploading much more frequently. I also changed my blog up a bit – I was solely focussed on the environment and I tried to make every post, factual and keep myself more private but since changing to blogging about the environment and eating disorder recovery, I wanted to show more of me. I love writing blog posts so much and gave me something to do in lockdown.

This month, I got really into organising drawers, bookshelves etc. I reorganised my room, sorted out my clothes and even reorganised part of the kitchen! Along with playing lots of board games and taking photos.

Playing chess in the garden

June

Took lots more photos, baked a cake, and started painting more. We had a few BBQs where I had a halloumi or Quorn burger + mushroom skewers😋. I didn’t really get up to much this month.

July

This month was the first time I met a friend since lockdown! So that meant that I saw their dog too 🐶 and I started going on walks around the park with them 💞

My favourite picture of Alfie and me

August

This is my favourite month of the year because there was such lovely weather and things were starting to look up (only to go back downhill again…but we’ll ignore that for now). I took lots of pretty flower photos, did so much baking, dip-dyed my hair pink (look more like red) and went on lots of dog walks! 🌺

My sister came to visit! She stayed for almost 4 weeks and it was the best – definitely the main reason why August was the best month of the year 🥰 I also had my A-level results day where I saw some of my college friends and my teacher for the last time – I actually loved that day so much ❤️ That same day my dad and I went to a supermarket for the first time since February!

And of course, at the end of the month, it was Monty and Percy’s birthday 🐱🐱

Birthday picture!

September

My sister and I upcycled one of my favourite skirts into a bag! My mum, sister and I went to Westonbirt which was really fun and I got so many autumnal photos – we also had a picnic with mini cupcakes 🧁🧵

My friend and I watched a movie & played Mario Kart outside which was so cool.

My brother and sister came over the day before I went to uni which was great but we couldn’t hug😢. Then I started uni – so exciting but also really nervewracking. I very nearly came straight home because I felt so alone…but I forced myself to stay (because I was worried I might never come back).

I love this photo!
I had so much fun walking on the beach with my flatmate this day

October

The first day of October might have been my favourite day of the entire year. My friend and I did a super fun scavenger hunt and we won!! We had the best day, going all around Bournemouth and doing challenges like ballroom dancing in public, dancing like we’re at a rave, taking selfies, squirrel videos, going to lush etc.

Then it went slightly downhill….my friend got Covid symptoms which was really scary so I came home and self-isolated. Luckily, her test was negative and she was absolutely fine but I was so scared so I haven’t gone back since then.

I went on a few walks with my friend and her dog which was fun and I got completely into Autumn 🍂 Also, Strictly started which was truly one of the highlights of the year💃🕺

This was the month I made my first tik tok…and Monty attended lots of my seminars with me.

A classic 2020 selfie

November

This month we went into a second lockdown, it didn’t really change much for me. Same old, same old. I went on some more Autumnal walks with my parents, played lots of Among Us, started getting ready for Christmas & blogmas and took a lot of cat photos (though I always do…).

Cute Percy

December

December was a very strange month for me, Christmas didn’t feel anywhere near to normal but I did have so much fun doing blogmas. I’m really proud of myself for managing to upload every other day 🎄 I made this cute Christmassy corner in my room with my mini Christmas tree that Percy so kindly helped me decorate!

I had a bit of a down day where I was starting to feel guilty for eating again – I opened up to my mum about this because I really do not want to go down that path again.

I watched a lot of Christmas movies to try and get into the spirit but it didn’t work that well. I made a gingerbread house, and also read a lot of books to try and complete my book challenge. One of my favourite books I read this month has got to be Miss Marley – it’s a prequel to A Christmas Carol, we get to know more about Jacob Marley and Scrooge’s partnership and why Jacob has so many chains. I really recommend it – it’s only 50 pages or so, but it’s one of the most interesting books I’ve read.

Then, it snowed!!! On the 27th December, it snowed and we got to go on a snowy walk.

Hope you enjoyed this post – I really enjoyed writing it! I tried to show the harder moments too ❤

Best wishes, Cx
