Since it’s Autumn, now is the perfect time to create a cosy hygge corner! Autumn is my favourite season because I love being all snuggled up with my blanket whilst it’s raining outside. Ever since I discovered Hygge earlier this year, I have been creating cosy corners in my room. Last Christmas, I created a cosy Christmas corner. I’m not sure if I would classify it as Hygge, but I love decorating in style with the season.
Anyway, in this post, I’m sharing how I created my very own cosy hygge corner, with the help of some gorgeous prints, from Poster Store of course! I did a review of their products in the summer so I’m really happy to be collaborating with them again. Poster Store is a Swedish company that sells Scandinavian prints and posters, as well as frames. All their prints and posters are certified by the Field Stewardship Council, Nordic Swan Ecolabel and International Environmental Guidelines to ensure they meet the highest environmental standards.
What is Hygge?
Hygge is a Danish word for the concept of warmth and cosiness. It’s about creating a lovely atmosphere with lots of lights, as opposed to the main light. If you want to know more about Hygge, The Little Book Of Hygge is the best book to read!
Deciding the location
Since I am at University, picking my bedroom was an obvious choice for my Hygge corner. However, if you have your own house or flat, you might rather have it in the living room. Then there’s the choice of where in the room. Contrary to the title, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a corner of the room. I’ve chosen my Hygge corner to be in between my desk and drawers because that’s where there is a little pocket of space! I also made sure that it was near a plug socket, in case I wanted to add a lamp.
If I had my own house, I would design the corner a little differently. I would probably want there to be a window, maybe so I could watch the sunset whilst reading. It doesn’t really matter where you choose your cosy corner to be as long as it has everything you need.
Furniture
The next thing to decide is what furniture are you going to place nearby. As I said, I have my desk and drawers nearby. This wasn’t exactly a choice, but I like the idea of having at least one piece of furniture nearby. I mean, you need a place to set your tea down!
Do you want a chair to sit on? I didn’t have any space for a chair, in my dream hygge corner I would want either a comfy chair or a small sofa! Blankets are obviously essential, as well as cushions.
Prints
You can’t be having plain walls, a Hygge corner definitely needs a nice selection of prints! At Poster Store, you can get an amazing selection of prints. They literally have everything you could ever want, as well as new collections released every Tuesday.
I picked out some Autumn prints for my cosy Hygge corner. As well as some larger prints for a different wall in my room, which I’ll show you later. I chose from the following categories:
- Nature & Botanical
- Animal
- Illustrations & Abstract
- Typography & Quotes
Here is the whole photo wall in all its glory!
Nature & Botanical
Poster Store had so many Autumnal prints so I struggled to choose which ones I wanted. I absolutely loved the Autumn woods print and I felt that it would go well with the main Hygge print that I already had. I couldn’t not buy the pine cones print, I love seeing them on the ground!
Animal
As an animal lover, I couldn’t resist the stag in the snow! I loved the idea of having a matching deer print to go with it, and I love the tree drawings within it.
The cat print was from the previous collaboration but I just like it so much that I wanted it in my cosy corner. Plus, it goes well with the stag & deer.
Typology & Quotes
The Hygge print was also from the previous collaboration and is what inspired me to make this cosy corner.
Although that part of my room is what I consider to be my cosy Hygge corner, I didn’t want the rest of my room to be left plain.
This is what I came up with:
This wall is the one to the right of my bed. It’s the wall you see as you are passing by and as you walk in. I wanted to have something bold, so I decided to get them in A2 so they would stand out.
As you probably know, I suffer from anxiety and sometimes forget to take a breath. I thought this would be a nice reminder to slow down.
Illustrations & Abstract
When I was deciding what to put up there, I thought some abstract prints would look good. I was even happier when I saw that these two go together, with a pause for inhaling and exhaling!

Lighting
Lights are a super important part of Hygge! To create a nice atmosphere, it’s best to use lamps, candles or fairy lights as opposed to one main light. This suits me perfectly as I find that one light makes the room too bright.
I chose to go with fairy lights as I have been wanting some for a while. They are really cheap, yet they are so effective. I always have lots of candles and wax melts on my desk, so I will still get a lovely smell.
Blankets
Although I haven’t got a chair in my corner I still have plenty of fluffy blankets! They are essential to a cosy corner. My favourite blanket would have to be the one my mum knitted me (though that one is kept on my bed) or my pink fluffy blanket.
Plants
Maybe plants aren’t an essential part of creating a Hygge corner, but I love having my succulents and plants close by. Plus, there are lots of benefits of houseplants! Did you know that a Snake plant is one of the best plants for releasing oxygen at night?
Books
Now that you have set up your cosy Hygge corner, you need something to do. I’m a big reader myself which is why I have a high stack of books on my drawers. Imagine sitting down in your comfy chair with a fluffy blanket, your new gorgeous Poster Store prints, a steaming mug of tea & your favourite book! It sounds pretty perfect.

Your selection of prints is beautiful. The stag in the snow is a stunning piece. Fairy lights are always a must in a cosy space! I have plenty of blankets as well, some might say too many, but I love wrapping myself up in one or many. 😁
