There are so many beautiful countries and places to visit in the world. I feel like since I have been interrailing, I’ve really caught the travel bug and it has also given me more confidence to travel. I love to travel by train as I like seeing the view and I get really anxious on planes, additionally, it is the more eco-friendly option. I am very much a homebody so I have many more places on my UK bucket list than on my international bucket list. Here are my top 5 places I most want to visit in the world.
Norway
Norway has been on my travel bucket list for years and it is definitely sitting at number 1! I’ve been wanting to go there since a beautiful photograph popped on as my screensaver on my laptop. In Scandinavian countries, you can get 24 hours of daylight and darkness. I feel like most people would want to experience 24 hours of daylight, but I really want to see what 24 hours of darkness is like. It is one of the reasons that I would like to go so much. Plus, there’s a chance that I could see The Northern Lights which would be pretty cool. I’d love to go on a boat in one of the fjords, they are so stunning!
Iceland
I would love to visit Eyjafjallajökull. It is a subglacial volcano and last erupted in 2010. I learnt about it during Geography A-Level and although volcanoes scare me a bit, I would love to visit it. Studying about it so much has made me really interested, though apparently it’s meant to erupt soon so I might not visit for a while!
I would also love to explore Blue Lagoon which is a geothermal spa and Gullfoss Waterfall. There are so many other stunning landscapes and places I want to visit in Iceland.
Denmark
Following on the Scandinavian theme, Denmark is another place I would love to visit in the world! Ever since I discovered Hygge, I have been wanting to visit Denmark to experience their culture more than anything else. Hygge is a Danish word with the concept of feeling cosy, warm and enjoying simple things. It is something I want to include more in my life. They also love lamps as opposed to the main light, I am exactly the same.
As there are so many cities that sound interesting, I would definitely want to have lots of day or two-day trips around the country. Skagen has a beautiful National Park which I would love to have a wander around, as well as looking at their wildlife. Faaborg is a cute village, packed with boutique shops, cafes and the port. Åalborg is home to Denmark’s smallest cathedral, as well as The Lighthouse which is a permanent street food market. I thought the one in Camden was pretty cool, so this sounds like something I would like to explore and take photos of.
Of course, I would like to go to a traditional Danish bakery and try the pastries – yum!
Some of the information was from this blog post.

Burano, Italy
Italy is one of my favourite countries, and have visited Lake Maggiore, Venice and Milan so far. I absolutely adored Venice and would love to go back. Burano is one of the islands of Venice and is only a 45-minute water taxi away, so this would be a perfect day trip. The water taxi is so cheap, and if you get the 24-hour ticket you can really make the most of travelling around. Burano has been on my travel list for years, the colourful houses make it so attractive. There are some other islands nearby which would be fun to visit as well, including Murano which is famous for Murano glass!
Keukenhof, The Netherlands
I have already been to Amsterdam, but I would love to go back during the tulip season. Tulips are one of my favourite flowers, and my ultimate dream is to have a flower field. I grew 45 tulip bulbs last year, and this year I have planted 33 to create a little tulip patch on my allotment. Ever since I grew tulips last year, I now refuse to buy them from the shop as they are teeny compared to what you can grow yourself!
The Netherlands is a really beautiful country, and they prioritise cycling which is great to see. There are few cars, and so many bikes that they don’t even need to lock them outside shops! Imagine if it was like that in the UK or even America? I didn’t really check out the cuisine of The Netherlands when I went interrailing as we were trying to save money. So I would like to explore that, and have more delicious stroopwafels!
