Bower Collective washing up liquid review

March 23, 2022 Filed Under: Blog posts, Sustainability

AD/AFF – Some of these products have affiliate links. You can read my disclaimer here.

I recently bought the Bower Collective washing up liquid and I thought I would share my thoughts on it. Stay tuned for the amazing discount at the end of the post (hint: it includes chocolate!). Previously, I had been going to a refill shop to get my washing-up liquid, but it takes me 2 buses to get there. Although there are lots of refill shops in Dorset, they are all at least 2 buses which isn’t very feasible. I decided to try out the Bower Collective lavender washing-up liquid which came via the post.

Why should I get refills?

Refills are so much more sustainable than buying a new plastic bottle of washing up liquid every time you run out. You don’t need to buy a fancy bottle, just reuse the plastic one you already have. As much as plastic is negative, once it has been made you should use it as much as you can.

Who are Bower Collective?

Bower Collective was created to make sustainable living accessible with products that are good for the planet. Their inspiration is from the Bowerbird which recycles/reuses brightly coloured plastic scraps to decorate its nest! Bower Collective sell a massive range of sustainable products, not just their washing up liquid, which I’m going to be reviewing. You can buy so many amazing products from them, including cleaning, bathroom, kitchen, dental, period care, pets, beauty & kids products.

Why should I choose them?

  • Bower products are made in reusable and refillable packaging.
  • They work just as well as non-sustainable products – I believe better!
  • They are committed to reducing their carbon footprint impact – over 90% of products are made in the UK
  • Where possible, they have all natural ingredients & are non-toxic for people and ecology
  • All suppliers meet the Ethical Trade Initiative Base Code which ensures workers are paid a living wage and are treated fairly
  • All Bower products are cruelty free & animal testing free
  • Most Bower products are vegan (apart from the ones containing beeswax)
  • Free from SLS and parabens
  • Fragenced with essential oils
  • 20p of each purchase will go towards the Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Save Our Seagrasses’ appeal to protect endangered seagrasses in the UK

Bower Collective washing up liquid review

Let me start by saying, my delivery came so quickly which I was very happy about because I was completely out of washing up liquid! I ordered 1L of the lavender washing up liquid*, as well as a pink glass dispenser* because my plastic washing-up liquid bottle was thrown away by someone 🤦‍♀️. I chose the pink one because if you know me, most of my stuff is pink aha!

Lavender Bower Collective washing up liquid and pink soap dispenser

Aside from the sustainability of the product, one of the things I love most is the lavender scent! I am so happy that it is from the lavender essential oil* which has loads of amazing health benefits.

The glass bottle dispenser used about half of the washing up liquid. I have been using this product for about 2 months, washing up about once or twice a day and I have used just over a third of it. What I’m trying (not very well!) to say is that the washing up liquid foams up so well. When I only have a few things I use one pump of washing up liquid which is plenty and ensures that my things are cleaned properly.

I bought a water & oil resistant custom label* from BellamyStone on Etsy, which you obviously don’t need, but I just love how it looks!

Discount code

Now for the part you’ve all been waiting for… You can get £15 off on orders over £30 when you use this link*! The free Tony’s Chocolonely bar is only available until the 3rd of April 2022, so make sure you order before then. Remember, they don’t just sell washing-up liquid, but a whole range of other products too.

Have you tried Bower Collective washing up liquid or any of their other products before?

Best wishes, Cx

This sounds like an amazing alternative to going to a refill shop. So convenient to have products right to your door 🙂

Oooo this sounds like a fab brand! I don’t know why, but just knowing you get a free chocolate bar using your code makes me feel more positively too 😂 I do love chocolate but it’s the small things that can make a difference with how brands interact and care for their customers so I like those small touches. I really like the dispensing bottle, I’d quite like to get one of those. Good idea with the label from etsy, too. Fab review! xx

It’s so wonderful that you’ve found this option. I really wish that my favorite handwash was available with this method. I’ll have to look and see which scents Bower Collective has so that I could take advantage of their options!

What a really great brand — I am trying to make everyday switches to items that can be refilled so it’s good to know there are so many options now!

Great review! I hadn’t heard of Bower Collective before but they sound absolutely amazing. Refillable washing up liquid is such a great idea and I love that they give 20p of each purchase to the seagrass appeal! Thanks for sharing, I’m definitely going to check them out x

This sounds like a great product. I’ve never heard of this company before but they sound great. I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on some of this – though I will have to see if I can get it shipped to Canada.

Oh this is such a neat concept. I recently started using a similar product for dish soap as well. Love that it is environmentally conscious!

    This product looks amazing.

I’ve been thinking about getting a sustainable refill and I’m sad to say the big brands don’t make them affordable or accessible enough.

This sounds like a great solution. Thank you for sharing.

I have been hearing more and more about this type of refill! I love that it can be used for things like shampoo and soap, which we use very consistently. Bower Collective’s return process is the simplest I have come across yet too! 🙂

I love products such as this that use refill packs (why can’t everything be like this)! I’m glad you found a product that works well for you. Thanks for sharing.

That’s a great post Caroline! We’ve been buying refills from Carex in Tesco but I’ve been looking for more sustainable alternatives so this is great, thank you for sharing! I’ll make sure to use your code when we decide to make the order 🙂

This sounds like a lovely brand and I’ve never come across it before. I love that they get their name from a bird! That’s so sweet : ) I use the Bio D washing up liquid currently, because I live in walking distance of a refill shop, but I realise I’m really lucky with this! Getting items like this delivered is a great alternative.

Ooo this washing up liquid sounds lovely…I love the lavender fragrance. I haven’t heard of the brand before, but it is great that you can buy more sustainable options that work just as well as the ‘bigger’ brands.
